Naruto × Ninkū has been announced as a four-episode anime. That does not establish that the four Naruto anniversary episodes postponed in 2023 have been repurposed. The October 11, 2026 official report introduces the crossover without connecting it to the earlier delay.

Why have fans been waiting for four episodes since 2023?

Four anniversary specials were scheduled to begin airing weekly on September 3, 2023. The broadcast was postponed in August to allow more work on production quality.

The question never disappeared. An April 2026 Reddit discussion explicitly asked whether those four episodes would ever be released. Replies mixed hope and frustration, but they were fan opinions rather than evidence from the production team. That discussion also predates the new October announcement.

What exactly was announced in October 2026?

Naruto × Ninkū follows young Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura on a mission that carries them into another world, where they meet Ninkū's Fūsuke. Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto and Ninkū creator Kōji Kiriyama are supervising all four parts.

The collaboration has a particular creative history: Kishimoto has described Ninkū as an important influence on Naruto. It is a crossover with a reason for existing, not just two familiar names thrown together.

Does the matching episode count solve the mystery?

The official announcement describes the crossover's plot and creators, but does not say the postponed anniversary specials were rewritten, revived, replaced or cancelled. Treating any of those possibilities as a confirmed outcome would overstate what has been announced.

Look for two different updates: a release schedule for Naruto × Ninkū and an explicit statement about the 2023 project. More Naruto news is planned for Jump Festa on December 19–20, 2026, but an answer about the older specials has not been promised.

Four episodes may be the same number, but they are not a fingerprint—or a Shadow Clone Jutsu. The crossover is confirmed. The fate of the 2023 specials still needs its own official answer.
