Meijo Park is easy during the day.
You can visit the sewer museum, walk through the park and look around the huge IG Arena. NEX PLAZA, the Nagoya Expressway information center, is also nearby.
The problem begins in the second half of the 4 p.m. hour.
The practical answer is simple: after about 4:30 p.m., stop forcing another educational facility into the schedule and switch to Sakae’s evening-oriented commercial district.
In 2026, the clearest new destination is The Landmark Nagoya Sakae.
It is not a free observation tower, but its 40th-floor hotel bar creates a legitimate route to the top even for non-hotel guests.
1. The sewer museum closes at 4:30 p.m.
Metawater Sewerage Science Museum Nagoya is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and admission is free.[1]
Once you finish the exhibits, you emerge at exactly the time when “one more place” becomes difficult.
During the day, the surrounding facilities combine well.
After 4:30, however, moving to another public educational site quickly turns sightseeing into a race against closing time.
2. NEX PLAZA stays open until 5 p.m. — but the control room is already off the table
NEX PLAZA is a nearby free facility explaining how the Nagoya Expressway works. It opens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.[2]
The first-floor exhibition can be viewed freely without a reservation.[3]
The traffic control room is different. It requires advance booking and cannot be visited between noon and 1 p.m. or after 4 p.m.[3]
So at 4:30 p.m.:
- first-floor exhibition: still possible
- guided tour: advance booking required
- traffic control room: already unavailable
- whole facility: closes at 5 p.m.
If you are already nearby, a short visit can work.
If travel time consumes most of the remaining half-hour, the leisure activity has become a speedrun.
3. At 4:30, switch from “public museum mode” to “Sakae mode”
The easiest move is to take the Meijo Line to Sakae.
Sakae has shopping, cinemas, restaurants and hotels that continue operating after public educational facilities close.
And in 2026, a major new mixed-use tower joined the area.
Mitsubishi Estate says The Landmark Nagoya Sakae has 41 floors above ground, four below and a height of about 211 m. It was completed on March 31, 2026, and its retail and cinema components opened June 11.[4]
Meijo Park’s public facilities are winding down while a 211 m new building in Sakae is entering its evening shift.
The city changes modes very visibly.
4. How high can an ordinary visitor go normally?
The lower section of The Landmark Nagoya Sakae is designed for general visitors.
HAERA occupies B2 through 4F. It opened with 65 shops on June 11, 2026. Standard hours are 10 a.m.–8 p.m. for retail and services, with restaurants operating as late as 11 p.m. depending on the tenant.[5]
TOHO Cinemas Nagoya Sakae occupies 5F through 9F and opened the same day with 10 screens and 1,655 seats.[6]
Those levels work like normal retail and cinema space.
Above them, the building changes function.
Mitsubishi Estate identifies:
- 10F–11F: Conrad Nagoya meeting and banquet functions
- 12F: office sky lobby
- 12F–30F: offices
- 31F–40F: Conrad Nagoya
This is not a building where anyone can wander to 41F for free.
Ordinary city roaming effectively pauses after the public retail/cinema levels.
5. But the 40th floor is not completely locked away
Conrad Nagoya occupies the upper tower, and its 40th floor contains the rooftop bar House of Mon.[4][7]
The official page says that since September 1, hotel guests may reserve subject to availability. Non-hotel guests are not taking reservations and are seated in order of arrival.[7]
So you do not need to stay at the hotel.
But you are not entering as a free building tourist.
You are entering as a bar customer.
In urban-exploration-game terms:
public low-rise route → ends → hotel-customer route unlocks on 40F.
6. How much is one drink on the 40th floor?
The official House of Mon beverage menu lists Asahi Super Dry draft beer at ¥1,500.[8]
The listed prices include 10% tax and a 15% service charge.[8]
House of Mon is open 5 p.m.–midnight and closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The dress code is smart casual. Children under 10 are not admitted, and guests under 20 may use the venue only until 8 p.m.[7]
So if there is space and you meet the conditions, this itinerary is real:
sewer museum → 4:30 p.m. closing → Sakae → new 211 m-class tower → ¥1,500 beer on 40F.
A few hours earlier you were thinking about wastewater underground. Now you are drinking beer above the skyline.
The range is ridiculous.
7. It is tempting to compare ¥1,500 with an observation-deck ticket — but this is still a bar
If your goal is simply a high city view, the idea naturally resembles an observation deck.
But House of Mon is not one.
It can be full. It has a dress code and age conditions. It is not a place to enter, look around without ordering and leave.
The accurate statement is not “¥1,500 buys access to 40F.”
It is: “Draft beer at the 40F bar costs ¥1,500, and non-hotel guests may use the bar in order of arrival.”
Still, emotionally, it can feel like the elevator to the sky comes with a beer attached.
8. Conclusion — after 4:30, change the city mode instead of fighting closing times
Meijo Park is strong for daytime parks, infrastructure and educational facilities.
After 4:30 p.m., the sewer museum is closed, NEX PLAZA has only until 5, and its traffic control room is already unavailable.
Trying to collect one more public facility becomes a fight with travel time.
Switch to Sakae and the city opens a different set of options: retail, cinema, food and hotels.
In 2026, The Landmark Nagoya Sakae is the obvious new building to explore. The lower floors work as normal public-facing commercial space, and if the goal is “go high,” House of Mon provides a paid customer route to 40F.
4:30 p.m. at Meijo Park is not the end of sightseeing. It is just the end of the public-facility turn and the beginning of Sakae’s night turn.
