Description: Nintendo lists Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX Cloud Version as compatible with Switch 2. That sounds promising—until you read the other warning on the same store page.

No. The older Cloud Version still requires an internet connection on Nintendo Switch 2. Compatibility tells you the software can run on the newer console, not that it has turned into a locally installed game.

On October 1, 2026, players discussing that month's Switch releases celebrated the idea of native Kingdom Hearts ports. Another question in the conversation was how a port differs from a Switch 2 Edition. Both are fair questions, but neither means an existing cloud purchase automatically gains offline play.

Two lines on Nintendo's page settle the confusion

Nintendo's US listing for KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX – Cloud Version explicitly says Switch 2 behavior is consistent with Switch. Just below that, it says an internet connection is required. Read both lines together: supported on Switch 2, still streamed.

The listed download is just 77 MB on either console. Nobody has squeezed Sora's journeys, bosses and worlds into a tiny download by magic. That small client connects you to the game running elsewhere; the cloud part hasn't vanished.

What about the new ports people are talking about?

A fan's excited comment is not a product specification. Check the exact title in your regional store. Is it labeled for Cloud? Is the listing for Switch or Switch 2? Does it expressly promise offline play? Do not assume a separate release includes a free upgrade or transfers saves from the earlier cloud version; the official pages reviewed here do not establish those terms.

Bottom line: Upgrading the console does not upgrade the old Cloud Version into an offline game. Before you pay—or pack a Switch 2 for a trip without Wi-Fi—check which Kingdom Hearts edition you're actually opening. The Heartless are enough trouble without a missing connection.
