Description: The Eighth Avenue comment, the Dancing with the Stars rehearsal reaction and the Paige DeSorbo reference explained.

Comedian Connor Wood wanted his celebrity crush Jennifer Lawrence to notice him. Her reported reply was that she had already spotted him drinking a smoothie on New York's Eighth Avenue—and he had not noticed her. The person asking to be seen had apparently missed the person he most wanted to meet.

Who is involved, and which video is this?

Wood, known online as Fibula, is competing in season 35 of ABC's Dancing with the Stars with professional dancer Rylee Arnold. Lawrence is the Oscar-winning actor associated with The Hunger Games. The exchange did not take place on the television dance floor. It developed through a BuzzFeed Celeb interview, an Instagram comment and a TikTok filmed during rehearsal.

The timeline, October 20–23

In an interview released October 20, 2026, Wood named Lawrence as his celebrity crush and asked for a small acknowledgment that she thought he was funny. He mentioned Paige DeSorbo, of Summer House and the Giggly Squad podcast, who had wished for precisely that kind of praise and received it from Lawrence online. Wood jokingly wanted his own Paige moment.

After viewers tagged Lawrence under the interview clip, several outlets reported a reply from an account attributed to her: she had seen Wood with a smoothie on Eighth Avenue, but he had paid her no mind. Wood shared a screenshot to Instagram Stories. Arnold filmed his astonishment in the rehearsal room and posted it to TikTok. Reports variously date that reaction video October 21 or 22; Entertainment Weekly, E! News and BuzzFeed reported the story October 22–23.

Why is his reaction funny?

According to contemporary descriptions of the clip, Wood starts face down on the floor, reads the message, gets up, paces and repeats the same sentence. Arnold reminds him that Lawrence recognized him and might simply be teasing. Wood cannot stop imagining that he passed his dream encounter while concentrating on a drink.

The comic reversal is precise: “Please notice me” becomes “I noticed you; you didn't notice me.” A grand Hollywood fantasy collapses into an ordinary smoothie run. The specific street name makes the mental image even sharper.

Did they really cross paths?

The reported comment and Wood's response are documented, but there is no independent proof of the claimed street encounter. Just Jared wrote on October 22 that it could not find the comment on the original Instagram post. The reported joke should not be confused with independently verified footage of a meeting.

Bottom line

Wood got the acknowledgment he wanted, complete with a possible missed-opportunity punchline. This is a public comedy exchange, not confirmation of a romantic relationship. The accidental star of the story is a smoothie.
