Description: Baldur’s Gate 3 has no announced Nintendo Switch 2 edition. Larian’s founder said the studio would have liked one but could not make that decision. Here is what that answer does—and does not—settle.

Short answer: As of October 14, 2026, there is no announced Switch 2 release for Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian expressed interest in a port, not a release commitment or a definitive ban on one in the future.

The comment behind the headlines

During Larian Studios’ January 9, 2026 Reddit AMA, a player asked whether a Switch 2 version was even possible. Studio head Swen Vincke replied that they would have loved to do it, but the decision was not theirs. One sentence travelled quickly: “not our decision” sounds much more dramatic than an ordinary “nothing to announce.” Yet it says little about who declined what, when, or why.

Why handheld players care

In a Nintendo Switch 2 community discussion, one commenter said they already owned other consoles but preferred a portable way to tackle an enormous RPG; another hoped a different team might eventually handle a version. Others read the answer as a discouraging sign. Those are identifiable comments in one conversation, not evidence that every player shares the same view.

A rights question is not a performance benchmark

Baldur’s Gate 3 already runs on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its Dungeons & Dragons setting involves rights holder Wizards of the Coast, while Larian developed the game. Vincke’s answer points to decision-making beyond his studio; it does not reveal confidential agreements or prove that Switch 2 hardware failed a technical test. “Never coming” is therefore stronger than what the developer actually established.

What should you watch next?

A platform listing or dated announcement from the relevant companies would change the picture. Until then, anyone primarily seeking portable play can compare the existing PC version on handheld PCs, checking performance for their own device. For a game famous for branching choices, the one dialogue option players still cannot select is “confirm Switch 2 edition.” The next official announcement—not a confident forum prediction—will decide that path.
