Description: The “Great Fandom Truce of 2026” is a TikTok joke in which unrelated fandoms shake hands to mock the animated film Lesbian Space Princess. Here's where the August 2026 trend came from and what “Just This Once” means.

Why are characters from completely different shows suddenly reaching out to shake hands? They're acting out the “Lesbian Space Princess Fandom War,” also called the “Great Fandom Truce of 2026.” The premise is that fandoms that usually argue can briefly agree on one target: the Australian animated movie Lesbian Space Princess. It's a deliberately overblown alliance, not a real treaty signed by everyone on TikTok.

What did the movie do to inspire a fandom alliance?

Released in 2025, Lesbian Space Princess follows Saira, a shy space princess trying to rescue her kidnapped ex-girlfriend, Kiki. The adult animated comedy reached new viewers in August 2026, when clips and jokes about its dialogue, premise and sexual humor circulated online. Some viewers found those elements painfully awkward and started making edits about their dislike.

That's only one side of the reception. Critics have also praised the film; Rotten Tomatoes shows a favorable critics' consensus. The online “every fandom hates it” line is the story the meme tells, not an accurate count of every fan's opinion.

How does “Just This Once” work?

On August 22, 2026, TikTok creators posted edits depicting different fandoms uniting against the movie. One used My Little Pony footage; another assembled Avengers characters. Know Your Meme recorded multiple examples passing one million views within roughly two days. The gag quickly acquired the label “Great Fandom Truce.”

To use the format, put characters from rival or unrelated fan communities in a handshake or team-up scene and add “Just This Once.” It means, “We disagree about almost everything, but we're allies for this one absurd mission.” The same basic fantasy of fandoms gathering for an imaginary battle also appeared in a notorious Tumblr meme back in 2012.

The best part is the scale mismatch: an internet disagreement about a film gets the visual treatment of an intergalactic peace summit. The handshake looks historic; the ceasefire probably ends at the next argument about who's stronger.
