Description: Find the exact free Firefly AI Assistant reset time, who qualifies, how monthly generative credits differ, what changed on October 1, 2026, and why some Photoshop subscriptions show 25 instead of 500 credits.

Short answer: eligible free Firefly AI Assistant users get their daily complimentary generations back at midnight GMT (00:00 UTC). That is 9 a.m. in Japan. Adobe's broader generative-credit FAQ also describes a free allocation that expires one month after first use. Those statements refer to differently described limits; Adobe does not document a single shared counter that makes them interchangeable.[1][2]

Compare the counters before waiting for a reset

Access Published allowance Reset or expiry
Eligible free Firefly AI Assistant Limited daily generations; exact count not published 00:00 GMT daily [2]
General free generative-credit allocation Assigned on first use; quantity varies by feature/account Expires one month later; next allocation follows first use in a subsequent month [1]
Firefly Standard 2,000 monthly credits Subscription billing date [1]
Firefly Pro / Pro Plus 4,000 / 10,000 monthly Billing date [1]
Firefly Premium 50,000 monthly Billing date [1]

A complimentary generation is not necessarily the same unit as one generative credit. The cost of a paid AI action depends on the model, operation and output. Adobe's plan comparison also separates standard image features from premium video and partner-model features.[1][4][5]

Who actually gets the midnight-GMT reset?

The precise midnight rule comes from the Firefly AI Assistant FAQ, not a promise covering every Firefly button. Free Assistant access is limited to a subset of accounts in selected regions and adults aged 18 or older. The Assistant is not optimized for languages beyond English, French, German and Japanese. Some enterprise and education arrangements are excluded. A free Adobe ID alone does not guarantee Assistant access in every country.[2]

What changed on October 1, 2026?

Adobe says that from October 1, 2026, certain AI Assistant actions on paid plans consume available AI credits. Creating or editing content may use different amounts, visible after an action by hovering over the credit icon. Adobe calls these introductory rates, so the cost displayed in the product matters more than a fixed estimate in an old guide. The same FAQ expanded Assistant eligibility to Creative Cloud plan holders, with contractual exceptions.[2]

Adobe's general credit FAQ, last updated September 30, 2026, simultaneously describes daily complimentary generations and monthly first-use allocations for free accounts. Neither statement gives a universal number of free generations. The practical reading is to use the feature-specific midnight rule for Assistant, while checking the separate account credit balance for other workflows; treating the two as identical would go beyond the documentation.[1][2]

Why does one Photoshop user have 500 credits and another 25?

Adobe's plan table splits individual Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and other Creative Cloud single-app subscriptions by June 17, 2025: subscriptions begun before that date show 500 monthly credits, while those begun on or after it show 25. Photoshop Express changes from 50 to 25 in the same table; Photography 1TB remains at 1,000 in both columns. This is a contract-start distinction, not proof that all older accounts were automatically cut to 25.[1]

Paid Firefly subscriptions include unlimited standard image/vector generations, while premium operations draw from the monthly pool. Plan credits do not roll over. Multiple subscriptions can contribute to one total; the earliest subscription billing date controls the combined reset.[1][3]

What to check when the counter stays empty

Identify the actual product first: Firefly AI Assistant, the standard Firefly image tool, or an in-app Photoshop feature. Then inspect your Adobe account's plan, available credit balance and renewal date. If you have more than one plan, compare the first subscription's billing date. For the free Assistant, check regional eligibility before assuming the next midnight will enable an unavailable feature.[1][2][3]

Bottom line: midnight GMT is the published daily reset for eligible free Firefly AI Assistant users. Other free credits follow a first-use monthly description, and paid credits refresh on the billing date. The name of the counter matters more than the word “free.”
